As the calendar has turned to January, it is time to update the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Rankings. With so little movement on the MLB Hot Stove, the rankings will not have a ton of significant changes, but there are some. Updates will continue as more activity occurs via trade or free agency. Let’s take a look at the updated second base rankings.

There are no new editions to the initial second base rankings, but some risers and fallers are in the Top 30. Some of the movement is due to some new playing time concerns. Some movement due to certain players still being unsigned and no real movement on their free-agent front. Here are some of the main risers and fallers.

Jake Cronenworth fell in my rankings, and it was not easy for me to do. I had to take a step back and realize playing time is a real concern with Cronenworth after the Padres signed Ha-Seong Kim and Kim’s expectations starting at second base, pushing Cronenworth out as the everyday second baseman. Cronenworth could step in as a Ben Zobrist type, super-utility with infield and outfield versatility, but for now, we have to wait a bit until the situation is cleared up.

Tommy Edman moves up in the rankings. With Edman projected to lead off every day for the Cardinals and having massive multi-position eligibility, he gets the boost. He brings 15/15 upside to your fantasy team and is being drafted after pick 100. The Cardinals lineup is not great, but it will be just good enough for Edman to be a fantasy asset, and for that, he deserved a boost in the rankings.

Andres Gimenez rose quite a bit in the rankings, and I considered moving him even higher. He started low in the rankings as there were major questions about playing time with the Mets, but that has been cleared up now. As a part of the Lindor to the Mets trade, Gimenez now slides in as the likely everyday SS or 2B for the Indians and is projected to lead off. The offense is not great, but a player like Gimenez that brings some pop, a decent average, and more importantly, 20+ steal upside, gets a nice boost and is now fully on my fantasy radar.
