Pretty decent result last weekend, it was disappointing to see the lackluster performances from Borella and Joaquim Silva, but Claudio Silva, Holtzman, Covington and Gall gall took care of business. That $8900 price tag on Jim Miller was very telling, he didn’t get a win via RNC, but the guillotine in the 1st was just as good.

This weekend the UFC heads to Uruguay as womens flyweight champion Valentina Schevchenko defends her strap against Liz Carmouche, a woman that actually beat Schevchenko early in her career. There are quite a few interesting fights on the card, let’s take a look at the salaries.

Chalk

Valentina Schevchenko $9600: I think Valentina will put on a clinic here, but ask yourself this question. When is the last time Liz Carmouche was finished? The answer would be 2013 against Ronda Rousey. Carmouche is a fighter with a lot of experience and she’s pretty durable. Valentina could end it early, but I feel that this fight could go to a decision. I’ll have Valentina in maybe one lineup…I’m just not confident she pays that salary off.

Ciryl Gane $9400 – Sorry, I don’t care that your’e 3-0 and train with Ngannou. You’re making your UFC debut and fighting a more experienced guy. No thanks, I’ll pass.

Rodolpho Viera $9100 – I like Viera a lot, I can see this guy getting multiple takedowns and eventually getting a finish. Viera’s jiu-jitsu is some serious shit, and it’ll be on display. His opponent Piechota is also a black belt, but there are levels.

Vicente Luque $9000 – I think Luque is the better fighter on the feet and on the ground. I think Luque catches him with a left and finishes him with a d’arce. Luque is way more technical on the feet and he should seriously overwhelm Perry with volume. I do think Perry will be popular due to his power and low salary, and I’m fine with that.

Split/Ownership

Moffett/Barzola – I think this is going to be the fight of the night. Takedowns, scramples, reversals…the winner will score well here and I think it could go either way.

Mid-Tier

Poliana Viana $8600 – Viana will be low-owned due to her two previous performances, but I think she’s the far superior grappler and while Macedo is a decent striker this is going to the mat eventually. This is pretty risky but I think Viana can get the sub. Polyana Viana opened around -170 and got up to -230 and she’s now the dog which is insane to me.

Eduardo Garagorri $8400 – Garagorri is making his UFC debut, but this guy is really impressive. He’s a finisher, and his opponent Bandanay is on a bit of a skid. Yes this is a step up in competition, but Garagorri is Brazilian but lives in Uruguay so he will have the crowd behind him. At this price I’ll take the newcomer that is a proven finisher.

Dogs

Mariana Rodriguez $7500 – The fact that Tecia Torres is $8700 is crazy to me seeing how she has only scored over 90 fpts once and that was back in 2014 against Angela Magana. Torres’ game hasn’t improved at all and I really like the progress I’ve seen from Rodriguez. Sometimes you have to step back and ask yourself why they’re making this fight. Rodriguez is a nice prospect and I think she’ll be able to use her 5″ reach to just out volume Torres. I do think Rodriguez is better on the feet and I think it stays on the feet as Torres’ takedown accuracy is pretty poor. I think the combination of signifcant strikes with a decision win should score enough to pay off this salary.

Gilbert Burns $7100 – I’ll have some of Burns in my lineups due to the fact that he’s an exceptional BJJ practitioner and he has the power to  put anyones lights out. He is moving up to wleterweight so that is a concern, but I can’t ignore Burns at this price.
