I’ll have to say I enjoyed the 3 week break to recharge the batteries, but I am ready for 2021. The UFC kicks off 2021 at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. For the next week we’ll get 3 events, with one on Wednesday morning/afternoon and next Saturday we have UFC 257. So this Saturday we have Max Holloway taking on Calvin Kattar in a key featherweight clash. It’s an interesting card to kick off the new year, so let’s take a look at some fighters to target.

Chalk

I am only on one guy at 9k or above. Austin Lingo ($9000) should absolutely mop the mat with Jacob Kilburn. I’m honestly shocked Lingo is only -225 because I think he should be around -400. Kilburn doe not belong in the UFC, and while Lingo’s UFC debut didn’t go well, he is the way better fighter. Joaquin Buckley has potential to end the fight early but Di Chirico is a guy that is pretty durable and he hasn’t been knocked out in his carer. Actually Di Chirico has only been finished once and that was via sub to Eric Spicely (It happens, ask Thiago Santos). I just think this is an odd matchup and I can see this going the distance. Santiago Ponzinbbio is coming off a 2-year layoff and I can see his fight against Jingliang going the distance as well. Ramezan Emeev hasn’t had a finish in the UFC, and hasn’t score over 100 fpts, so I’m definitely not paying $9200 for him against Zawada. Finally, I’m not paying $9100 for Sarah Moras, so that’s that.

Mid-Tier

Phil Hawes $8800 – Phil Hawes gets better every time I see him, and he is better everywhere here. Nassourdine Imavov is a pretty durable guy, but even though hes from Dagestan, don’t be fooled, he’s not a great wrestler. I think Hawes can take this to the ground and win via ground and pund or piece him up on the feet. Hawes is more athletic, he has more power, and is just the better guy. I think Hawes rolls here.

Dogs

Punahele Soriano $7700 – Soriano made quite a statement inhis UFC debut, knocking out Oskar Piekhota in the 1st round. His opponent is Dusko Tudorovic, who won his UFC debut over an overmatched Dequan Townsend. Although Dusko won via ground and pound in round 2, it wasn’t that impressive of a performance. Dusko style is somewhat awkward and he leaves his chin up just waiting for it to get touched. While both of these fighters are somewhat inexperienced, I do think Soriano is the more complete fighter and much more athletic. I think Soriano ends this in the 1st or 2nd round.

Calvin Kattar $7300 – Kattar is another guy that has improved every time I see him. I respect the hell out of Max but I really think Kattar has come into his own and he has proven he can go 5 rounds and not take a round off. Max on the other hand, well, in his last fight against Volkanovski he did take rounds off. I’m not saying Max is on the decline, I just think the rest of the division is catching up to him. This will be a fun fight but I think Kattar’s boxing is going to give Max problems. He will tag Max and if he tags him clean it will change the fight. I may have Max in a lineup or two, but I will have Kattar in the majority of them. This fight is going to be a lot of fun.

Best of luck this weekend and enjoy the fights!!!
