The UFC’s final event of the year takes place early Saturday morning (or late Friday night if you’re on the West Coast) from Busan, South Korea. I won’t have many lineups in this one, I just see it as kind of a lackluster card with some ok fights but this event just doesn’t blow me away. Here are a few fighters I am targeting.

Chalk

Chan Sung Jung $9000 – I’m a huge Frankie Edgar fan but I really don’t know why he took this fight. The Korean Zombie is coming off an impressive first round knockout of Renato Moicano he’s looking the best he has in a while. Many may believe that Frankie has a legit shot here, but taking this fight on short notice, the travel, and the fact that it’s doubtful he gets this fight to the ground makes this a real tough task. I hate to say it, but I think Zombie takes care of business via 2nd round TKO.

Mid-Tier

Omar Morales $8800 – Why would a guy that’s making his UFC debut be at this price against Dong Hyun Ma? Ma is on a 2-fight skid and the strengths of Morales’ game make it a very unfavorable matchup for Ma. I think Ma’s chin is just about done, and Morales is the much better athlete here. I really liked what I saw out of Morales on DWCS, and I do think he will accumulate calf kicks and eventually get to the chin of Ma.

Dog

Volkan Oezdimir $7600 – I think it’s pretty ridiculous that Volkan is a dog here, but I’ll gladly take it. This is a huge step up in competition for Aleksandar Rakic, a guy that’s best win is against the now retired Jimi Manuwa, who was pretty much done at the time. I’ve said it on here a while back, Volkan may have lost to Dominick Reyes but go back and watch the fight and you’ll see that Volkan should have won that fight. I think Volkan is the much more skilled striker and way more technical. I think the striking and the experience will be the difference and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Volkan get this done inside the distance.

Other notes

The Pantoja/Schnell fight looks like a fun fight and I am rpobably going 50/50 on that one.

I suppose I’ll put Cyril Gane in a lineup but honestly the guy he’s fighting has a lot more experience and it wouldn’t surprise me if this fight went the distance. I like Gane a lot, but Boser is a pretty durable guy and a tough out.

Doo Ho Choi will more than likely be the highest owned fighter on the card. Be aware that he hasn’t fought in two years and before that took a lot of damage against Jeremy Stephens and Cub Swanson…buyer beware.

That’s it for UFC Busan, hope you all have a happy holiday and a great new year.

Best of luck!
