Last weekend was a shitshow plain and simple. Carlton Harris delivered, but when I saw Cerrone walk into the octagon, I immediately had a bad feeling. Our dog Magny came through but didn’t even pay off his salary. Disappointing event, but we move on to UFC 262 this Saturday. Let’s take a look at some fighters to target.
There is no fighter above 9k I’m interested in at all. Save your money. Gina Mazany at $9300? No thanks. Antonina Shevchenko at $9200? Definitely her sister but not Antonina. Save your money.
Charles Oliveira $8700 – The more extended this fight goes, the more it favors Do Bronx. Oliveira has more paths to victory, and while I like Michael Chandler, I think his victory over Dan Hooker was due to Hooker taking a lot of damage in his previous fights. On the feet, Oliveira’s length will give Chandler problems, and I do not believe Chandler will be able to close the distance. When he does try to, Oliveira is exceptional off his back foot. If this goes to the ground, it’s Oliveira’s world. Oliveira’s pressure and top control will be just too much for Michael Chandler, and I think Oliveira wins convincingly and scores well doing so. I will have one lineup with Chandler because he’s capable of putting anyone’s lights out, but it’s Do Bronx for me.
Two fights on this card, I’ll have split ownership. Schnell/Bontorin will be an entertaining scrap, and I think it could go several ways, but I see a finish one way or another. The other fight is Ferguson/Dariush. On Saturday, we will find out if Ferguson is finally done or if Beneil Dariush puts himself as a serious contender for the lightweight strap. I think the winner scores well here, takedowns, scrambles, possibly a knockout or submission. This will be another fun fight I’m looking forward to, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a strong performance from Ferguson. We’ll see.
Sean Soriano $7100 – Soriano’s first stint in the UFC did not go well at all. Since moving to Sanford $780d MMA in 2017, Soriana has won 5 out of his last 6. Soriano’s striking has improved immensely since then, and I think he’s well rounded enough to win this fight via decision or KO/TKO against Christos Giagos. Giagos should not be this big of a favorite, and he’s only -200 or so because of his UFC record, and he’s one all of his fights in the UFC via decision. Don’t get me wrong, Giagos is a decent fighter, but Soriano’s striking will be a problem for Giagos. This is a second chance for Soriano; I always like to back the guy that’s getting his second shot in the UFC, and I think he’ll make the most of his opportunity.
Edson Barboza $7800 – Shane Burgos is a pressure fighter that serves Edson Barboza well here. I can see Barboza’s leg kicks will do a lot of damage, and eventually, he will find an opening to land something big to knockout Burgos. Barboza should be favored here, and I like him to win impressively.
That’s it for UFC 261. Good luck with your lineups, and enjoy the fights!
