UFC 257 is upon us, as Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier meet in the octagon for the second time. McGregor won via first round knockout in their first meeting, but a lot of things have changed since then. Speaking of changes, I always like to wait to finish these articles after weigh-ins, and thankfully I waited because there’s been some changes to the card. Ottman Azaitarviolated health and safety protocols and was pulled from the card, and also Nasrat haqparast had to withdraw due to an illness. It will now be Matt Frevola vs Armen Tsarukyan. Salaries have not been adjusted, so keep an eye on that.
The Main Event
I’ll be split on this one, and you better believe ConorMcGregor will be extremely chalky. If Conor wins, it’s going to be in the first round, and there is a bonus on DK for a win in the first 60 seconds, so there’s that. However, if Dustin can perhaps get this past the second round, he has a shot to make things interesting. We’ll see, I’m looking forward to it.
Khalil Rountree $9300 – Rountree has been up and down in his recent few fights, and he’s coming off a knockout loss to Ion Cutelaba. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him in the octago, but he’s taken the appropriate amount of time off, and he’s the faster, more athletic and more powerful guy here. I can’t see this going past the second round and I could see a quick finish here.
I will also have Amanda Rias in some lineups, I think she has her way with Rodriguez. Ribas is legit.
Nik Lentz $6800 – Lentz is the biggest dog on the card. There is no way on earth he should be this big of an underdog, it’s insane. Lentz has solid wrestling and he striking has improved tremendously over the course of his career. His experience and fight IQ far exceeds his opponent Evloev. Has Evloev been impressive? At times yes but I don’t think he’s lived up to the hype since entering the UFC. In his last time out against Mike Grundy he was taken down 6 times but won the striking battle outstriking Grundy 79-20. It was a good performance but I think Lentz is a real test for the young Russian, and I think Lentz is well-rounded enough to get a split decision victory. I always so you want to back a guy that’s going to fight for your money, Lentz is one of those guys.
Michael Chandler $7700 – Chandler is making his UFC debut after a decorated run in Bellator. I think the odds should be more tightr here, and while I like what Hooker has done in his last few fights, he’s taken a shitload of damage in his past two fights. Chandler has serious power, and in case you need proof check out his last fight. Benson Henderson has been known to be an extremely durable fighter with a solid chin. Chandler knocked him out, and no one has knocked out Bendo like that, it was impressive to see. Chandler also has solid wrestling credentials that I think will create a real problem for Hooker. I think Chandler can score well with takedowns and control time, he’s worth the price.
Other dogs to look at
Matt Frevola $7400 (Subject to change) – Frevola is a decent grappler and the fact that this is a change in opponent I think Frevola could steal this one.
Julianna Pena $8000 – McMann is going to look for takedowns, and that’s all fine and good but Pena can hold her own on the ground (solid Jiu-Jitsu)and could surprise with a sub. She will be low owned!!!!
