Well, Ghim ended up being the only dud of the week last week. Hickock was top 20, and Perez made the cut. I would have been much happier if I didn’t use Ghim in my best lineup, but it is what it is, and we move on to the next week now.
Ruby #1 Camillo Villegas ($6900)– Villegas has played very well as of late. In his last two appearances, he has a 32nd and a 6th. It is a little concerning that he hasn’t made the cut at the Amex since 2013, but he hasn’t played as well as he is now. He had a 12th here in 2012. Villegas Ranks top 10 in my model last 12 rounds. Where he has been stellar is in the T2G, Approach, and ball striking departments. He has also played par 4s very well. Villegas’s best-putting surface historically is Bermuda, which is the grass this week. Villegas has never missed the cut at the Memorial, which has many crossover winners to the Amex.
Ruby #2: Brian Stuard ($6600)– I used Stuard at the RSM classic as a Ruby as well. He is usually a decent putter. He gained almost four strokes ono at Sony and lost over 2 ARG and nearly 1.5 putting. That is not typical for him. I think he can turn that around this week. HE seems to be striking the ball beautifully as of right now. Stuard does have a 5th place finish here back in 2014 but has proven he can play OK here. He has 10th place back in 2013 as well. Stuard looks like a solid play this week for his price if you want to pay up for the big guys.
Ruby #3: Kramer Hickock ($6700)– Yes, I am going back to Hickock. He warrants it. He finished 19th at the Sony while only gaining .6 on approach. He was a T2G monster gaining over six strokes. He only lost .3 putting, so if he can repeat that this week, he will compete for a top 20 again. He gets a lot of birdies, which makes him a very viable draft kings player. He has played here 2x in the past and has made the cut one time and missed it one time. This is historically a more challenging place to make the cut since they usually cut the field at the top 60 after three rounds. That will be different this week, and I think Hickock will make the cut and hopefully contend for a top 20.
Good Luck this week
