Well, a Ruby almost took him home last week. At 125-1 that would have been fun for me and my bank account. In the end, Bryson proved too much, but Wolff gave it a serious run and it was genuinely a fun sweat. Hadley missed 2 putts on the last 2 holes to make the weekend and cost me so many great chances at high 6/6 on Draft Kings. Oh well, you move on to the next one. Burns played very well for his value and definitely returned all his value. Tringale played much better than I thought he would. He exceeded my expectations and proved me wrong. On to this week we go!
Ruby #1: Hudson Swafford ($6600)– Swafford has played very well in 3 of his last 4 tournaments. Gaining strokes T2G in 3 of those 4 datings back to WMPO. Obviously, there is some time off and it took him the travelers to shake off the rust a little, but Swafford played well at the Rocket Mortgage Classic finishing 30th. He finished 30th all the while losing 1.5 strokes putting. He gained 5.8 on approach and 5.7 T2G. Swafford has played memorial 3 times and has made the cut in two of those events. A Made cut here would be a success at his price.
Ruby #2: Henrik Norlander ($6500): I’m a little confused about this pricing here. Norlander has played very well as of late, finishing 12th at Rocket Mortgage and 41st at the Travelers. It’s easy to see how he did it. He is striking his irons perfectly. He has gained almost 5 strokes on average T2G over the last 3 tournaments. He has gained over 4 strokes on average on approach last 3 tournaments as well with 8.6 gained on approach at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He is not a great putter, so another week we will be stressing a 7 footer on 18 on Friday. I’ll be better all these plays and Norlander is no exception.
Ruby #3 Jason Dufner ($6800)– This one feels like my gut play of Matt Wolff last week. The stats do not point to Dufner being successful this week. He ranks bottom ¼ of my stats model. The good thing he has going for him is his course history. A former winner here and even played well last year with a top 10 at the Memorial. He knows this course probably better than most players in this field. Coming off an MC at the Rocket Mortgage Classic won’t phase me. He had made his previous 7 cuts on tour. I think he gets back on the made cut train this week. If he’s within striking distance on Sunday you never know what the experience factor could bring.
Coal: Richy Werenski– Rode a fairly hot putter to a 21st place finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week. Lost on approach at the Rocket Mortgage. This field is a better field. He will have to pick up his game. He has only gained on approach 1 time in his last 9 tournaments and that was at the Travelers. He has never played at the memorial either so he doesn’t have the experience here. He was a great call by some last week I just don’t see him repeating that kind of performance this week.
