Week 14 leads our fantasy teams into the All-Star Break. It also leads us towards a lot of uncertain rotations. Whether you have a week that will continue after the All-Star Break, or start anew, you’ll want to be careful of who you stream because it’s not pretty.
Pitchers to stream will be listed with their team, their probable opponent(s) for the week, and their ownership percentages on ESPN and Yahoo.
Matt Strahm – San Diego Padres
ESPN: 16%, Yahoo: 26%
7/2 vs. SFG, 7/8 @ LAD
Strahm has a two-start week, but the first one against the Giants is more appealing. His ERA has risen over the last month, but a strong start against the Giants may be what he needs. Strahm may still be dealing with a lingering rib injury, but his last start against the Orioles showed some promise. He did give up four runs, but also struck out nine batters in six innings. Hopefully, this means Strahm is more healthy, than not. With the Dodgers being the second start of his week, you may want to skip over him if you don’t feel confident, but he should be fine aganist the Giants.
CC Sabathia – New York Yankees
ESPN: 15%, Yahoo: 23%
@ NYM or @ TBR
It’s not clear on when Sabathia’s next start will be, but it looks to come against the Mets or Rays. Both are road starts for the Yankees’ southpaw. So far in 2019, Sabathia is almost a strikeout per inning pitcher, and that’s pretty decent for where is ownership percentage is at. He’s pitched into the fifth inning in all 13 of his starts. The chances of him getting the win are better than quality start, just because he’s more likely to pitch five innings rather than at least six. The Mets are bad, and the Rays are finding ways to stay in second place, behind the Yankees. Whichever team he faces, I think you can stream Sabathia for either.
Michael Wacha – St. Louis Cardinals
ESPN: 11%, Yahoo: 11%
7/4 @ SEA
I’m not going to lie, I feel pretty gross with this suggestion. But, Wacha’s last two starts have been alright, and Week 14 comes against the Mariners. In his last two starts, Wacha pitched six and seven innings, and gave up just three earned runs, collectively. If there’s some consistency here, I’d take a chance. The strikeouts just aren’t there for him, but that’s not why we’re streaming him. I don’t think things will bode well for Wacha as summer heats up. If you can, take Wacha against the bad Mariners offense in T-Mobile Park.
Jeff Samardzija – San Francisco Giants
ESPN: 7%, Yahoo: 10%
7/1 @ SDP, 7/7 vs. STL
Samardzija is one of the few available streamers with a two-start week for Week 14. He starts the week against the Padres, in San Diego, and ends the week facing the Cardinals, at home. Both of these teams have not been great offenses, and looks to be one of the better weekly matchups for Samardzija. With the Padres and Cardinals ranked 19 and 21, out of 30 MLB teams in the runs scored department. Samardzija can pitch a handful of innings, and has been more consistent with strikeouts as of late. I really like him for Week 14, but with the Giants has his offense, don’t be dependent on the win.
