We have finally made it to the unofficial 5th major of the year, THE PLAYERS. It was a wild ride getting here after all the carnage the last two weeks on the Florida Swing. Weather should be better and conditions should allow for some more scoring as well this week, which should allow some of the best of the best to make a run. Kevin is rolling hot after a big win by Hatton last week, but Bubba is still hanging onto first thanks to a 4th place finish from BAD. Now, we have a loaded field, a $15M pot and $2.7M to first this week. A lot can change in the standings, so let’s see who the guys like with the 2020 THE PLAYERS PGA OAD Picks.
|Last WK $||$1.674M||$455,700||$455,700||$0||$0|
|Last WK PK||Hatton||BAD||BAD||Stenson||Day|
|This WK PK||JT||Rahm||Webb||Rory||Scott|
Well Jason Day pulled a classic Jason Day last week and withdrew before he was going to miss the cut. Terrible choice on my part, but I was trying to play a big part of the ownership game. Anyway we are on to The Players Championship, the best field and richest purse of the year. I am going to use Adam Scott this week. He is coming off the missed cut, so he had a little more time to prepare and missed the mental carnage of the weekend at the API. More importantly he plays well around Sawgrass with 4 straight top 12s at this course. Best of luck this week!
Got a very nice little backdoor top 5 from Bryson last week. I will take it. I haven’t really got that signature win yet, but I’m ready to fire my gun I have been holding for a while. The time was coming and while I think he wins at least 1 major (The Masters), I’m going to use him this week because it is a giant purse as well. By now you have figured it out. I’m going with Jon Rahm. The #2 ranked player in the world has 10 top 3 finishes in his last 18 world wide events. Some people question his mental fortitude, but we just saw Tyrell Hatton take down a tourney. Rahm is a year removed from a minor meltdown here last year with the lead. I think he learned a lot from that and will get better this year. Put him in that spot again and I think he wins it this year. Take it home and show the haters Rahmbo!
Rory McIlroy – Another week and another painful MC, this time thanks to Henrik Stenson and his double at the last. Alas, the carnage is done. We’re going with the biggest name that you can and that’s Rory. The defending champ, best player in the world currently, and the best in-form player, McIlroy is too good to not use for a large purse like this. Even if you think he’s suited to win his first green jacket, there’s a $700k difference between the two wins. He has continued to be great with his iron play as he’s gained strokes in seven straight measured tournaments, gained around the green in five straight, and gained off the tee (the key stat) in 10-of-11 rounds (measured).
A nice 4th place finish by Bryson last week keeps me in first place but Kevin and Rob are close behind. I am still looking for my first winner this season. With that being the case I will be taking a previous winner of THE PLAYERS. This golfer finished 61st last year but the previous 4 years he went 1st/3rd/10th/2nd. Solid finishes and a lot of money won in those years. He is also coming in playing well. He hasn’t played in Florida yet but has gone 16th/1st/16th in his last 3 tournaments. Let’s hope the putter is hot once again because the ball striking is elite. Give me Webb Simpson for the WIN this week.
Welcome to the OAD @kevinsdelight !!! It was a tough start to the 2020 season as my picks stink early and often. Only 1 MC but way too many finishes nowhere near big money.
My dumbass thought last week was the end of segment 1 and I continued to avoid big names…Rory topped my list with Fleetwood and others peaking my interest. BUT I held out and continued to punt…WITH HATTON!!!! A big W to start Segment 2 not end Segment 1. So now this Dumbass is off to a great start.
I have bullets for days now and will fire at will. Rory, Rahm, JT, and DJ top my list. My choice is simple….JT @ THE PLAYERS for me. Rory plays with Rahm and Brooks for 2 days and it could turn into a pissing contest that i want no part of. DJ I’ll hold onto for another day. JT gets to walk the fairways with Rickie and Spieth Thursday and Friday. That alone makes it a very comfortable pick. JT for back to back wins…
Best of luck!
