We start off the 2019 fantasy baseball rankings at the worst position of them all, the catchers position. We have a couple young studs, some vets with a lot still in the tank and some sleepers that could help a fantasy baseball team. Let’s see where they stand in the early 2019 Fantasy Baseball Catcher Rankings.
|1 – J.T. Realmuto||11 -Willians Astudillo|
|2 – Salvador Perez||12 – Mike Zunino|
|3 – Gary Sanchez||13 – Tucker Barnhardt|
|4 – Wilson Ramos||14 – Yan Gomes|
|5 – Yadier Molina||15 – Francisco Mejia|
|6 – Willson Contreras||16 – Francisco Cervelli|
|7 – Yasmani Grandal||17 – Robinson Chirinos|
|8 – Buster Posey||18 – Omar Narvaez|
|9 – Welington Castillo||19 – Travis d’Arnaud|
|10 – Danny Jansen||20 – Jonathan Lucroy|
As anyone can tell by looking at these rankings, the fantasy baseball catcher position isn’t pretty. I usually won’t pay up at the position, but at the same time I’d like to walk away from my draft with one of my Top 10.
When you look at the top 3 you have Realmuto who gets the slight edge with his steals which is such a premium at the catcher position. Salvy tops Gary for me in the fact he puts up similar numbers, more consistently and playing time should never be an issue in Kansas City.
After the Top 3 there’s my 2018 darling in Wilson Ramos who should be in store for another big season, now in New York for the Mets. Maybe Willson Contreras makes a comeback. Yasmani Grandal, who will continue to move up draft boards after the awesome signing with the Brewers.
After Buster Posey who has continued to drop down draft boards with out much power showcased over recent years. Beef Wellington is one of my favorite catchers to wait on in my Top 10. Lastly Danny Jansen rounds out the Top 10 and got the boost into the Top 10 thanks to Russell Martin being traded to the Dodgers.
After the Top 10 it’s really bad. I would look to take a risk on Willians Astudillo if the playing time is there in Minnesota. Omar Narvaez was actually really good last year in a platoon and now will be the every day catcher in Seattle.
It’s an ugly position and many arguments can be made for different catchers. If you have any, fire them away and also be on the look out for updates throughout draft season.2019
